World Wildlife Day – 2014
On March 3, 2014, the Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau of the Department of Posts issued a new postage stamp to mark the first World Wildlife Day. The stamp features Mountain Hourglass Tree Frog (Taruga eques), a species endemic to Sri Lanka.

March 3rd 2104, was declared the inaugural World Wildlife Day by the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora. March 3rd was chosen since it was the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES).
